Ever had a boss who you thought was hiding key company information from you which could have helped you perform your job better? That’s known as Mushroom Management, a method adopted by less savvy business leaders who are desperate to hold onto power, and possibly their own jobs.
We decided to delve into the dark art of mushroom management for new client Geckoboard, a disruptive London-startup shaking up the business data dashboard industry. Companies who use Geckoboards can communicate key metrics instantly across the organisation, making sure the whole company is working to the same goals and stay focused on the things that matter.
We commissioned research and created a full online report looking at the scale and impact of non-transparent management in the UK and US. What we found was a quarter of employees have actually left their job because the information blackout got too bad – real evidence that mushroom management is taking its toll!
Four in five Brits also said that they did not trust bosses who failed to share company data. Over half of employees even resorted to their own detective work to discover what’s really going on in their company by digging out the data themselves.
The campaign has tapped into a widespread workplace problem, securing stand out coverage in the Evening Standard, The Independent, The Week and City AM, while also landing widespread business trade coverage on the likes of Fresh Business Thinking, Business Matters and Talk Business.
