To celebrate National Freelancing Day, this year Upwork, the world’s largest freelance talent marketplace, has got stuck into the hottest issue of the moment – the EU referendum debate – with a piece in City AM looking at how borderless working could change how we think about work and reshape many arguments currently on the table in light of this week’s vote.
Written by Upwork’s senior vice president, Rich Pearson, and appearing in the popular Office Politics slot, the article discusses the issue of the free movement of labour. Whether we stay in the EU or not, Rich argues that in today’s digital world, location is becoming an irrelevant issue, in the labour market at least.
Technology means we all need to rethink some of our assumptions about the world of work. As Rich puts it, “If Brexit is a possibility on the horizon, this new way of working is a certainty. Businesses and knowledge workers must embrace it if they hope to stay competitive.”
