We’re delighted to have started work with UK-based lender, Oakam, which provides financial services to the under banked and to microbusinesses.
Oakam has huge ambitions and has sets its sights on expanding globally and digitising its services.
With 22 stores across London and the Midlands, as well as a virtual store, Oakam offers responsible credit to people shut out of the mainstream financial system. Able to offer financial services in a number of languages, including Polish and Portuguese, Oakam has become an entry point for many new arrivals to the UK, helping them get on their feet and enter the UK banking system.
Capella is tasked with supporting Oakam as it aggressively scales the business by driving innovation and digitising its proven model so it can be applied across the UK and beyond. Oakam will achieve this by applying in-store learnings around encouraging responsible borrowing habits to the digital world, beginning with a new smartphone app, due for release in September 2015.
Capella PR will run an integrated communications campaign, using traditional and social media to showcase Oakam’s fintech innovations and demonstrate how the company helps the under banked improve their financial wellbeing.
Gareth Thomas, founder, Capella PR, said: “There are around 2.5 billion people in the world without access to formal banking services, who are denied basic opportunities the rest of us take for granted. Oakam aims to address this by combining advanced data science with an understanding of its customers as people and not just numbers. That is a global vision we are excited to be part of.”
Frederick Nze, CEO, Oakam, said: “Oakam is a hugely ambitious company and we know Capella PR both shares our enthusiasm to tackle the serious problem of the under banked and has the financial technology experience to tell our story in a clear, responsible way.”
