What’s the one thing you wish you’d known about becoming a parent?
Bringing a little one into the world is one of the most rewarding things anyone can do. But it’s also one of the most challenging. Hindsight is wonderful thing. If only we’d known those gems of advice that are learnt through trial and error, before baby arrived – parenting would have been slightly easier.
It was this thought – picked up through insight sessions with new mums and dads – that inspired our ‘What I Wish I’d Known’ (#WIWIK) campaign for Kiddicare.
We launched the campaign last week, releasing new research that found 79% of new parents found the first three months of parenthood much harder than expected, yet over 90% admit to exaggerating how well they’re coping, often feeling under pressure to put on a brave face and conform to the ideal of a ‘perfect parent’.
Of course, raising the issue is one thing, but Kiddicare also wanted to try and help, so we worked with them to create a beautiful space online where parents can share their experiences in an open and honest way to help new Mums and Dads.
The WIWIK site has gone down really well, with hundreds of helpful stories and nuggets of advice posted via Facebook, Instagram and Twitter already.
The media was also quick to pick up on the story. The Telegraph wrote a fabulous comment piece and we’ve seen really supportive pieces across parenting blogs like NetMums and blogs, MadeforMums and DadzClub.
So, if you – or someone you know – is expecting a baby or recently welcomed a new baby into the world, take a look at www.kiddicare.com/wiwik – hopefully you’ll pick up some useful hints and maybe even add your experience too!
